KEURING 2012: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21.
Webinars from FHANA's library:
IN MEMORIUM
It is hard to believe that our friend and member Wilma DenOudsten suddenly passed away on July 16, 2011. She was a shining example of generosity and caring for people and animals.
Our deepest condolences go out to her brothers, sister, nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
All who have known Wilma will agree that she was a wonderfully social woman and a very knowledgeable veterinarian. She did her work tirelessly and never ever said ‘no’ when an animal owner called her to help with a sick animal. Wilma loved horses. She rode often and over the years handled the care, breeding and doctoring for many horses, fillies and colts.
Wilma was an enthusiastic member of and organized the trail rides for the Alberta Friesian Horse Association (AFHA). Last year and this year she tracked down very nice locations where we had our trail rides. She prepared wonderfully good food, organized games, and always led the group safely home with her uncanny sense of direction. In her head she was already planning the next trail rides. Wilma also participated in the musical rides of the last two years, in several Calgary Parades, and in most of the other club activities. She had set her heart on learning to drive her Friesian baby in the near future.
We will all miss her but she will always live on in our hearts
DRIVING CLINIC
BY GERARD PAAGMAN
LACOMBE, AB
July, 2011. CANCELLED - POSTPONED TO 2012
I'm looking forward to do a driving clinique; goals will be to be safe (horse, driver and passengers), to enjoy and to assure the welfare of the horse we will start at the beginning:
safe harnessing, how to harness, how to check the condition of the vehicle, proper hitching (do we all know what the distance between the horse and carriage has to be and do we all know how high the shafts have to be for a single and how long the pole has to be for a pair?) and from there we will start driving singles and pairs (and teams too??); and at the end of the two days I hope that we all will be able to drive our horses so that:
1. the horse or horses are really on the bit (so never again lose or floppy reins anymore!), 2. that we all prepare our turns really well (get a good massage of your shoulders before we start so that you will be flexible in your
hands!) and that when we make our turns our horses will nicely bend from nose to tail!
3. that we have our horse or horses all the time and under all circumstances fully under control!
I'm looking forward to it; hope you will all join (if not for the driving then join because of the great hosts!!!) gerard!
